As everybody from Tribe to The Beatnuts to Madlib knows, the Roy Ayers catalog is some of the most fertile loop-digging ground in existence. As evidence, I'd like to introduce to you exhibits "A" - a sick, sick, SICK battle of the vibes between Mr. Ayers and Dwight Gassaway (the chubby brutha) and "B" - one of my all-time favorites, "Funk in the Hole".
And seriously, even if you typically disregard this segment because funk isn't "your thing" (lamerz), I highly recommend at least checking out this first vid… it transcends the game:

I like funkin' the hole once in awhile. And if you've talked to your mom recently, you're probably aware of that.
The only problem I have with this is a technical one concerning the title of the first video: "Battle of the Vibes." It isn't technically correct. As a percussionist myself, I have to point out that the instrument in question is actually a Marimba, not a Vibraphone. The basic structure is the same, but a marimba has tone bars made of hardwood, and produces a slightly "harder" sound than a Vibraphone, which has aluminum bars.
In addition, a Vibraphone has a set of electric motor-driven discs that sit inside the resonation tubes, at the top, just underneath the bars. They rotate inside the tubes on a variable-speed rheostat, both increasing resonance, and producing a vibrato effect. Hence the name.
Here's the undisputed master of the vibes going to town on 'em:
Lionel Hampton - "Flyin' Home."
And thus ends your picky, unnecessary hair-splitting concerning the nature of the percussion family. Great finds, either way. Now back to your regularly-scheduled programming.
