This Day in History, March 3rd
1991 - Rodney King becomes the face of police brutality after amateur video capturing the LAPD's severe beating of the African-American motorist accidentally airs on ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos."
Several hours earlier, confused viewers watched as a confused Ted Koppel reported on the incident over video of "man hit in crotch with golf club."
1849 - congress approves the territory of Minnesota, and watches it become the nation's largest exporter of passive-aggressiveness and mayonnaise-based macaroni salads almost overnight.
State Motto, "You Betcha!" ratified the following year.
1931 - President Herbert Hoover signed into law a bill making "The Star-Spangled Banner" the U.S. National Anthem, citing the other options as, "much too short, upbeat and easy to sing."
Our nation's thirty-first President is also credited with freeing the goldfish, passing the "Crumpet and Jam Allocation Resolution of 1931," and painting embarrassingly amateurish landscapes in garish watercolor.
